Welcome to the Shikellamy High School Art Department!
We are located in rooms 145 & 147 in the high school.
We offer a wide range of specialty art classes from beginner to advanced levels. Some of our specialties include jewelry design, pottery, career art (our advanced level students), video editing and fantasy art. Course choices also include basics such as drawing and painting. At the high school level our students draw on a strong art base, having had required classes at elementary and middle school levels. By high school, art becomes an elective course, allowing students to specialize and choose courses that fit their interests.
We teach about 500 students per year, which amounts to almost one half of our student population. Many of our students have gone on to further their art educations and obtain jobs in their chosen fields. We currently have graduates studying at Bradley Academy, Penn State University, Pennsylvania School of Art and Design, Philadelphia Art Institute and Kutztown University. Ms. Howard and Mrs. Renn are both proud grads of Kutztown State College as well as the Shikellamy High School.
We pride ourselves on providing a strong studio-based program. We challenge our students to think creatively and solve problems in their work. Art history and critique are included to help students refine their ideas and brainstorm new concepts.
