Mr. Carey is the director of the concert and marching bands as well as small ensembles.  He also teaches a course in music harmony.
 
 
 
Mr. Carey has been director of bands at Shikellamy High School since 1997.  Before that, he was music director at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School in Shamokin from 1990 - 1997 where he taught concert band, marching band, jazz band, small ensembles, chorus, and drama.  While at Lourdes, Mr. Carey established a feeder instrumental program in the elementary feeder schools.  His program grew to include 2 assistants for the feeder program and a staff for the marching band.  While at Lourdes, Mr. Carey was Assistant Marching Band Director at Selinsgrove HS in 1991 and was a member of the marching staff's for Mifflinburg HS (1991 - 1996) and Shikellamy HS (1992 - 1996.)  Mr. Carey was the musical pit orchestra director from 1998 - 2001.
 
Mr. Carey is a 1986 graduate of Wilson High School, West Lawn and a 1990 Graduate of Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove.  He has pursued additional studies at Villanova University where he studied under such noted musicians as Dr. Quincy Hilliard, Denis DiBlasio, Jerry Nowak, Ed Lisk, and Ed Sueta. 
 
He keeps active musically by performing for musicals at local high schools (Milton, Mifflinburg, Selinsgrove and Warrior Run), churches, a big band group called "Seasoned Sounds", and at District Band Festivals.  Past performances have included the Reading Pops Orchestra, Bucknell University Orchestra, Pottstown Band, Centerport Band, and the Susquehanna Valley Chorale.   
 
Mr. Carey has also had the honor of meeting such noted musicians as the members of YES (Rick Wakeman, Jon Anderson, Chris Squire and Alan White), Bruce Hornsby, Davy Jones, Dizzy Gillespie, Maynard Ferguson, Arturo Sandoval, Wynton Marsalis, the members of the Candian Brass, Spyro Gyra, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, and Special EFX as wall as Jimmy (JJ) Walker from "Good Times."  Mr. Carey also had the opportunity to speak with Billy Joel as part of a radio call in show
 
Mr. Carey also has attended numerous concerts such as Billy Joel, Elton John, Peter Frampton, Genesis, Yes, Styx, Rush, Journey, Def Leppard, Chicago, Hall & Oates, Kansas, REO Speedwagon, Cheap Trick, Tower of Power, Pat Benatar, Phil Collins, Foreigner, Fleetwood Mac, Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, the Hooters, Robert Palmer, Loverboy, Bad Company, Gin Blossoms, Damn Yankees, Eddie Money, Spin Doctors, Dokken, Whitesnake, Indigo Girls, Soul Asylum, Kix, Dirty Looks, Air Supply, Blessid Union Of Souls, John Cafferty and The Beaver Brown Band, Rick Braun, Pat Metheny, Spyro Gyra, Grover Washington, Jr., Doc Severensin, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messangers, Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis, Maynard Ferguson, Special Efx, Rippingtons, Canadian Brass, Empire Brass, Boston Brass, Chestnut Brass, Jeff Dunham and Bill Cosby
