Shikellamy Continuity of Education

posted by Bethanne Zeigler

The mission of the Shikellamy School District is to challenge and excite learners to be all that they can be as responsible citizens for the 21st Century. This plan is to provide all students planned instruction, enrichment, and review opportunities during the COVID-19 school closure.

The Shikellamy School District continues to develop academic opportunities that include planned instruction, enrichment, and review opportunities for all our students. During the COVID-19 school closure, the District has implemented an instructional plan in phases:

Phase 1 (March 16-27): A 2 week instructional plan was provided to Shikellamy students on March 12.

Phase 2 (March 30-April 10): A list of resources was released (link provided in resource section) to students and families to provide instructional, enrichment, and review opportunities for all students. These resources are divided by grade level and by subject. We encouraged our community to use these resources to promote student learning.

Phase 3 (April 13-End of Closure) : Continuity of Education - Planned instruction, enrichment, and review opportunities will be provided to all students. The District is 1:1 with student Chromebooks in grades 6-12 and will utilize a combination of online learning and packet distribution for these grade levels. For grades K-5, the District will utilize packet distribution for planned instruction, enrichment, and review since we not 1:1 in these grade levels.

COVID-19 Message from Dr. Bendle

posted Mar 13, 2020, 11:50 AM by Bethanne Zeigler   [ updated Mar 24, 2020, 6:16 AM ]

Tuesday, March 24, 2020-

On March 23, Governor Wolf announced that all public schools will remain closed through at least April 6 as a result of the COVID-19 response efforts. The closure order could be extended beyond April 6 if necessary to save lives and stop the spread of COVID-19.  The Pennsylvania Department of Education issued a new timeline as follows:

School buildings would reopen on April 7 for two days to allow school administrators, teachers and other staff time to prepare classrooms and buildings. Students would return to school on April 9, unless extending the closure is needed in response to the situation with the virus at that time.

Additionally, the State is cancelling all State standardized testing including career and technical education programs testing.

The Shikellamy School District continues to develop academic opportunities for our students.  This will be rolled out in phases:

Phase 1: The 2 week packets that were given out on March 12th

Phase 2: A list of resources will be available on our District website and Facebook account this week.  These resources are broken down by grade level and by subject.  We encourage families to use these resources to promote student learning.

Phase 3: The State is calling for a "Continuum of Education".  This is a plan that will be developed over the next few weeks and may be released incrementally to support student's learning should further closure take place.

The district will continue to communicate based on new information.  Stay safe and following our State Governments guidelines to fight against this pandemic.

The district will continue to provide updates to our families as they are made available.
