School Board Update

  • At the December 3, 2018 Organization and Regular Board meetings, the Board of Education approved the following:

    • Approved the 2019 Board Meeting Calendar, which is on the last page of this newsletter.
    • Elected Wendy Wiest to serve as President and Mr. Scott Karpinski to serve as Vice President for a term of one year.
    • Appointed Lori Garman to serve on the Board of Directors of the Degenstein Community Library for a term of one year.  Wendy Wiest and Gretchen Walter were appointed to serve on the Braves Foundatino
    • Approved the transfer of $5,725.00 from 2018 Varsity Football gate receipts to the Capital Reserve Fund to be used for future improvements at the Shikellamy Football Stadium Complex and $1,454..00 to be transferred from 2017 Junior High/Junior Varsity Football gate receipts to the Outdoor Education Activities Fund Account to benefit the Fifth Grade Camp Mount Luther field trip.
    • Accepted a donation of 60 blankets from the local Project Linus chapter to be distributed to students who are in need and/or experienced trauma.
    • Accepted a donation of various pieces of equipment at an estimated value of $12,200, from Mrs. Angela Holliday to be used by the Special Education Department.
    • Accepted a donation of four dry erase white board from Sunbury Generation to be used at Shikellamy Middle School at an estimated value of $240.00
    • Authorized the administration to apply for a PASmart Targeted Computer Science and STEM Education Grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Education in the amount of $35,000 to provide training in computer science integration to at least four teachers in grades K-12.
    • Appointed Sarah Delcamp as a part time cook with her initial assignment at Shikellamy Middle School.
    • Approved the second and final reading of BP – 806 – Child Abuse, 808 – Food Service, and 916 – Background Checks for School Volunteers.
