Professional development is more than meeting certification requirements—it is an investment in our educators and our students. Through meaningful learning experiences, our teachers, specialists, administrators, and support staff continue to develop the knowledge, skills, and instructional practices needed to prepare students for success in an ever-changing world.

Professional Learning Opportunities
Shikellamy educators participate in a variety of professional learning experiences throughout the school year, including:
- District in-service days
- Building-level professional development
- Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
- Curriculum and instructional training
- Technology integration and AI learning opportunities
- MTSS and student support training
- Conferences, workshops, and webinars
- Coaching and mentoring
- New Teacher Induction
The District partners with the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit (CSIU), the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), and other educational organizations to provide research-based professional learning opportunities.
Act 48 Resources
Pennsylvania educators are required to maintain active certification through continuing professional education as established by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Professional educators may earn Act 48 hours through approved collegiate coursework, continuing professional education courses, district professional development, conferences, workshops, webinars, and other qualifying learning experiences that relate to their certification area or professional responsibilities.
District staff are responsible for monitoring their own Act 48 status through the Pennsylvania PERMS system.
