The Shikellamy School District values the time, talents, and commitment of our volunteers. Parents, guardians, grandparents, alumni, and community members play an important role in enriching the educational experience of our students.
To ensure a safe learning environment, all volunteers must comply with Pennsylvania law and Board Policy before participating in school activities.
Who Needs to Complete Volunteer Clearances?
Volunteer clearances are generally required for individuals who:
- Chaperone field trips
- Assist in classrooms on a regular basis
- Volunteer at school events where they have direct contact with students
- Coach or assist with extracurricular activities
- Mentor or tutor students
- Serve in any role that involves regular interaction with children
If you are unsure whether clearances are required for your volunteer activity, please contact your child's school office before volunteering.
Required Clearances
Pennsylvania law requires volunteers to obtain the appropriate background clearances before serving in schools.
Depending on your volunteer role, you may be required to provide:
- Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Check
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Certification
- FBI Criminal History Report (if applicable)
- Volunteer Affidavit (when eligible)
- Any additional district forms required by Board policy
How to Become a Volunteer
- Review the district's volunteer requirements.
- Complete the required clearance applications.
- Submit all required documentation to the appropriate school office or district office.
- Wait for district approval before volunteering.
- Check in at the school office and follow all visitor procedures whenever volunteering.

- Volunteer clearances are valid in accordance with Pennsylvania law and district policy.
- Volunteers must work under the supervision of school personnel.
- Volunteers are expected to maintain student confidentiality and follow all district policies and procedures.
