Regular school attendance is one of the most important factors in a student's academic success. The Shikellamy School District is committed to working collaboratively with families to encourage regular attendance and to provide support when attendance concerns arise.

Pennsylvania law requires school-age children to attend school regularly unless they have an approved excuse. When absences become excessive or unexcused, the District follows the attendance procedures established by the Pennsylvania Public School Code and the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

If a student accumulates multiple unexcused absences, parents or guardians will receive written notification and may be invited to participate in a School Attendance Improvement Conference (SAIC). The purpose of this meeting is to identify barriers to attendance and develop a plan that supports the student's successful return to regular attendance.

Students who become habitually truant may be referred for additional services or legal action as required by Pennsylvania law. The specific process varies depending on the student's age and individual circumstances.

The Shikellamy School District believes that partnering with families is the most effective way to improve student attendance. Our goal is to identify concerns early, connect families with available resources, and help every student attend school consistently and successfully.
